CHCH Live@5:30 Thursday

Donna's producing, and we're talking cars!

With gas prices aimed ever higher, fuel efficiency is starting to be the most important words on a brochure. What should you buy? A Smart Car? A CUV? A bicycle?

  1. Interesting topic.
    I have a 4 banger.
    Wife has a mini-van.
We both commute. Me to Oakville, her to Hamilton, and our hours don't jive.
Just for fun, I investigated public transport last week. To get from Brantford to Oakville for 7 am requires leaving here on a Greyhound at 4 am,then Go Bus, train and Oakville Transit getting me to my office at 6:58. The return trip gets me home at 7:30 pm. Total cost...$35
For $3 more I can take the VIA home and get here at 5:30.
So this options run 175-200 a week or $700-$800 a month.
My total fuel usage in March for the 2 vehicles was $835.
    Wheres my incentive?
BTW, my food budget for March was $680.

    I'm screwed either way.

  2. dj, I agree. It also makes for a very long day to use public transit. I spend enough time on the road without adding more time to my day and tripping over thousands of people that I really have no desire too do. I have a family that needs me at home, not stuck on some train or bus somewhere smelling breathe and a garlic induced pastrami sandwich that someone has had for lunch...
