I read it and found the idea of a scientist undergrad finding the arts so "easy to study" amusing. To say he missed the point is obvious. If Beard really understood the artistic temperment,he wouldn't have been suprised with Maisie leaving him to join a commune. There's a difference between faking it in the arts and faking it in bed. The audience in either case might know and not care, but you can be darn sure another artist or lover will know. Maisie probably realised in due time he'd worked at it and was a day tripper when it came to the arts. No shame in that but a telling blindspot just the same. Interesting article, Thanks!
